Intake procedure for NT2 courses

Dutch for foreigners NT2 (Nederlands als 2e taal)

These are Dutch courses for foreigners living in the Netherlands who want to live here and/or apply for a residence permit. It promotes integration and participation in Dutch society. Learning to speak and write Dutch is essential for those who want to settle in the Netherlands.

Registration 
Registration can be done online through this website. The course information for beginners is both in English and Dutch. If you do not have a valid email address, you can also fill in a registration form and pay by direct debit or in cash at the office. Course materials, such as books, are not included in the course fee. The student will receive an automatic confirmation email after registration. There must be a minimum number of participants in the group. Students will be informed no later than one week before the start of the course whether the course will actually take place.

Start NT2 courses
Our NT2 courses start twice a year, in September and February. At the end of April and November you can find the NT2 courses on this website and register.

In case you want to enroll in a course that is already in progress, please contact the administration (breda@volksuniversiteit.nl). We will do everything to help you find the level and course that suits you best. 

Levels
Our NT2 courses are set up according to the levels of the Common European Framework Reference (CEFR form A1-C2). For more detailed on the CEFR click here.
Our NT2 courses are aimed at people who had secondary and higher education in their native country. It is an asset that you have knowledge of a foreign language, such as English, French or German. 

If you have no, or very little knowledge of Dutch, you can register for level A0-A1 (Dutch 1.1) using the website or registration form. 

If you have followed a course elsewhere or have done self-study, you might start at a higher level. Students who do not start at level A0 will have an intake interview with the teacher to determine the appropriate level.

The lessons
Our courses are held in person, once a week, in the evenings on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesday or Thursdays. A lesson is 1.5 hours. All classes are held at Avans Hogeschool, Hogeschoollaan 1, Breda.
From the first lesson onward, we speak mainly Dutch. A minimum of 6 students is required for a course to go ahead. The maximum number of students in a group is 18. If a course is full, you can register on the waiting list.

Homework
Students should expect to spend 3-4 hours per week on homework. 

Teachers
The Volksuniversiteit ensures that suitable teachers are appointed before the start of the course. Teachers receive a contract of assignment.  

Books and teaching materials
You will find information about the course book (including its ISBN number) required for your course on the website. The course book is not included in the course fee. We aime to complete a module (2 or 3 courses) with one book to keep the cost for you as low as possible. We recommend purchasing the textbook only once you are certain that the course will take place. Books are available through various bookstores in Breda, as well as online. If the teacher compiles a syllabus, you can buy it directly from him of her. The rights then belong to the teacher. 
We do not recommend using second-hand books, as you will  need to purchase a seperate licence to access the online excercises - an essential part of achieving good learning results.

Attendance and testing
Teachers keep track of your attendance. At the end of the course, the teacher will check whether you are still on track. You will receive a certificate of attendance when you have attended at least 80% of the lessons. This is not a diploma. During personal coaching, the teacher will explain what you still need to work on in order to complete the module successfully.

At the end of a module you will take a test. Your certificate of participation will include a note stating whether your test result was insufficient, sufficient or good.
From level B1 onwards you may register for Staatsexamen NT2: www.staatsexamensnt2.nl. This is an official diploma.
After completion of the course, you are asked to fill in a questionnaire to evaluate the course and the teacher.

NT2 cursussen. Nederlands voor anderstaligen 

De NT2 cursussen van Volksuniversiteit Breda bieden buitenlanders de mogelijkheid om Nederlands te leren. Dit is niet alleen belangrijk bij het vinden van werk; het dagelijks leven wordt daardoor gemakkelijker en leuker. Denk maar aan boodschappen doen, de weg vinden of het journaal volgen en een gesprek voeren met Nederlanders, of iets regelen. 

Inschrijven 
Inschrijven kan online via deze website. De cursusinformatie voor beginners is zowel in het Engels als in het Nederlands. Als je geen geldig e-mailadres hebt, kun je per inschrijfformulier inschrijven en betalen via automatische incasso of contant betalen op kantoor. Cursusmateriaal, zoals boeken, is niet inbegrepen bij het cursusgeld. De cursist krijgt na inschrijving een automatische bevestiging per mail. Cursussen gaan door bij een minimum van 6 deelnemers, dit wordt uiterlijk een week voor aanvang van de cursus bekend.

Start NT2-cursussen
Al onze cursussen NT2 starten twee keer per jaar, in september en in februari. Eind april en eind november vind je de cursussen NT2 op deze website en kun je je inschrijven. 

Tussentijd instromen
Wanneer de lessen reeds begonnen zijn, kan je nog instromen. Hiervoor moet je contact opnemen met de administratie. Wij regelen dan een intakegesprek met een docent zodat je in de juiste cursus kan beginnen.

Niveaus 
We werken met de niveaus van het Europees Referentie Kader, ERK. Voor meer informatie klik hier.
Onze NT2-cursussen zijn bedoeld voor mensen die middelbaar en hoger onderwijs hebben gehad in hun geboorteland. Het verdient de voorkeur dat je kennis hebt van een vreemde taal, zoals Engels, Frans of Duits. 

Als je geen kennis of weinig kennis van het Nederlands hebt, kan je inschrijven voor niveau A0-A1 middels de website of inschrijfformulier. 

Heb je ergens ander een cursus gevolgd of een zelfstudie gedaan, dan kan je misschien op een hoger niveau starten. Vraag dan via breda@volksuniversiteit.nl een telefonisch intakegesprek om je niveau te bepalen.

Lessen
Onze cursussen worden klassikaal een of tweemaal per week gegeven, op maandag-, dinsdag-, woensdag-, of donderdagavond. Een les duurt 1,5, uur. Alle lessen vinden plaats bij Avans Hogeschool, Hogeschoollaan 1, Breda.
Vanaf de eerste les wordt hoofdzakelijk Nederlands gesproken. De lessen gaan door als er minimaal 6 cursisten zijn. Het maximaal aantal cursisten is 18. Is een cursus vol dan kom je op de wachtlijst.

Huiswerk
Reken op 3-4 uur huiswerk per week. 

Docenten
De NT2 coördinator zoekt voor aanvang van het schooljaar naar geschikte docenten. De docent krijgt een overeenkomst van opdracht.  

Boeken en lesmateriaal
Bij de talencursussen maken de docenten gebruik van diverse boeken. Bij de cursus staat aangegeven welk boek je moet aanschaffen (ISBN Nummer). De kosten daarvoor zijn niet inbegrepen in de cursusprijs. We streven ernaar om met een boek een module (3 cursussen) af te ronden om zo de kosten voor jou zo laag mogelijk te houden.
Wij raden je aan tot de aanschaf van de lesboeken over te gaan als je zeker weet dat de cursus doorgaat. Het merendeel van de boeken is te krijgen via de diverse boekhandels in Breda, maar ook online. Wanneer de docent zelf een syllabus maakt, dan kun je deze direct bij de docent kopen. De rechten liggen dan bij de docent en je rekent ook af bij de docent. 
Het gebruik van tweede handsboeken raden we af omdat je vaak geen toegang meer hebt tot de website die bij het boek behoort. 

Behalen van de module.
Aanwezigheid 
Aan het begin van elke les noteert de docent of je aanwezig bent. Deze presentielijsten worden bewaard op kantoor.
De docent toetst na elk level of je nog op schema ligt. Ben je ten minste 80% aanwezig dan krijg je een certificaat van deelname. Dat is geen diploma. Tijdens je persoonlijke begeleiding legt de docent uit waar je nog extra aan moet werken zodat je aan het eind de module kunt halen.

Aan het eind van een module leg je in de laatste les een toets af. Ook dit is geen diploma. Je ontvangt dan een aantekening op je certificaat van deelname dat je de toets hebt gedaan en of deze onvoldoende, voldoende of goed was.
